Design a Boundary Shell policy

Limit where a knowledge unit can operate using role, purpose, region and evidence constraints.

Outcome

What you will build

A reviewable policy boundary that allows the intended path and visibly blocks disallowed use.

Before you begin

Inputs and ownership

  • Registered VARVE
  • Role map
  • Permitted purpose and region
Conceptual configuration

Blueprint

This illustrates the governed fields to define during onboarding; it is not a public production API contract.

{
  "allow": {
    "roles": ["claims-reviewer"],
    "purpose": ["claim-assessment"],
    "region": ["CA"]
  },
  "default": "deny"
}
Implementation path

Build it step by step

  1. 01

    Map the intended consumer

    Name the user, agent or workflow that may access the knowledge unit.

  2. 02

    Define purpose limits

    State the tasks the unit may support and the decisions it must never influence.

  3. 03

    Add context constraints

    Apply regional, temporal or environment-specific conditions.

  4. 04

    Test denied paths

    Attempt access from disallowed roles and purposes, then inspect the denial evidence.

Verification checklist

Prove the governed path

  • The permitted path produces an answer from approved evidence.
  • An unsupported request returns an explicit governed outcome.
  • Every material claim resolves to a known knowledge unit.
  • The decision can be rerun after a source version changes.
